6 tips to help detoxify your skin
It’s safe to say 2021 is flying by with the first quarter of the year already behind us. This time of the year means (for most of us), overindulging which then can lead to breakouts, dehydrated and distressed skin. Acne can be caused by a variety of reasons such as sugar, hormone inbalances, and dehydration (just to name a few) but rest assured, there is a way to enjoy a treat without the guilt.
1. Up that water intake
We tend to forget about water consumption when we're enjoying the finer things in life which can mean our skin ends up dehydrated and barrier impaired.
Try a simple pinch test to determine your skin's hydration levels. If you notice any wrinkling or if your skin is not bouncing back when you pinch a portion of your cheek lightly, it could be dehydrated.
The best way to flush toxins from your body is by drinking plenty of water. It helps your kidneys get rid of waste products within your body in return helping brighten and rehydrate your skin. Aim to drink up to eight glasses of water a day.
2. Mask it up If your skin is looking and feeling dull or having some minor breakouts, our Ultraceutical face masks could be a great skin pick me up! The Ultra Replenishing mask is to help rehydrate & relieve distressed skin, the Ultra Engerising mask is to help revive and energise and the Ultra Purifying mask is to help with congestion whilst still being soothing for dry skin.
3. Avoid makeup where possible
Give your skin a break and go au-natural whenever you can.
Our first instinct when suffering from a blowout is to cover the evidence with a layer of makeup which will only work against you as makeup will clog your pores and irritate your skin further. Opt for the Ultraceuticals Ultra SPF 30 Moisturiser in sheer tint if you need a little coverage whilst still protecting your skin!
4. Cleanse and Cleanse again
The first cleanse will help remove makeup products and dirt from the day, the second cleanse and most vital, helps remove excess sebum, surface impurities and helps with unclogging your pores.
This may be the last thing on your mind after a few days of bad choices but trust us it is a key to healthy skin. Exercise increases blood flow within your body, therefore helps nourish skin cells and keep them vibrant. Blood also carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body which cleanses your skin from the inside out.
Stress and tiredness lift the natural testosterone and cortisol levels in the body, both of which are causes of dreaded acne. Make sure you are taking time to relax and get some sweet sweet shut-eye. Turns out getting your beauty sleep is a legitimate thing, and we aren't complaining.
Finally, if chocolate is your weapon of choice, consider dark chocolate, it's rich in antioxidants which can be more beneficial for your skin.
