Our newest lifting and firming treatment is threads. Threads are made of a dissolvable material used to lift and firm areas of the face. There are two types, Mono threads which are “short threads” and Cog threads which are “long threads”.
About Face Clinic use the highest quality Korean threads, TGA-approved in Australia.
Thread treatments are performed in a walk-in, walk–out manner. Local anaesthetic and topical anaesthetic cream is used to ensure patient comfort. Results of the thread treatment generally last for 1–2 years.
Mono "Short" Threads
Mono threads are a “short thread” made of a dissolvable material used to produce collagen in the skin to firm and tighten and reduce wrinkles.
Mono threads can be used anywhere in the face or body. These are ideal for areas where there could be a risk of the “overfilled look” when using dermal fillers.
Popular treatment areas include eye wrinkles and eye-bags, wrinkles around the mouth, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, “double-chin”, neck and more.
Cog "Long" Threads
Cog threads are a “long thread” made of a dissolvable material used to lift the skin and the tissue in the middle and lower face.
Cog threads are used to improve the appearance of a sagging jawline and cheeks, jowls, marionette lines, accordion lines, nasolabial folds and neck.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHEN CAN YOU SEE THE RESULTS OF THREADS?
With Mono “short” threads, Initially the patient will observe a correction in the treated area. This is swelling, and this will pass. Neocollegenisis formation takes approximately 12 weeks to occur.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
Generally, the results last for 20 months–2 years. This of course is dependent on the self-care of the patient, and radical changes in weight for example or general health will of course impact longevity.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH THEADS TO CHOOSE AND WHERE TO USE THEM?
In consultation we will use a FaceMap to tailor the choice and position of the threads used for optimum results for you.
WHAT DEPTH ARE THE MONO 'SHORT' THREADS INSERTED IN?
HOW LONG DOES THE MATERIAL ACTUALLY LAST IN THE SKIN?
The threads are metabolised through hydrolysis 6 months after the procedure.
They are then excreted as CO2 and
water. If you were to biopsy the dermis after this point, you would find new Type 3 Collagen mesh in the treated area.
WHEN AFTER THREADS TREATMENT CAN I HAVE A HYALURONIC ACID TREATMENT IN THE SAME AREA?
WHY AM I ADVISED AGAINST HEAT-BASED TREATMENTS IN THE AFFECTED AREA AFTER TREATMENT?
Aftercare instructions advise against heat based treatments in the treated area for 12 weeks for Mono short threads and 6 months for Cog long threads. The threads are heat sensitive, meaning that they degrade much more rapidly if exposed to high levels of heat. To achieve an optimal result, it is advised that the patient avoid such treatment whilst Neocollegenisis is occurring.
